Saruni Samburu

Kalama Conservancy, roughly 45 minutes from Samburu National Park

Overview

Saruni Samburu is built into a rocky outcrop high above the Kalama Conservancy, with six villas that open completely to the view. On a clear morning you can see Mount Kenya to the south and the Mathews Range to the north.

Because the lodge sits on community-owned conservancy land, guests enjoy walking safaris, night drives and off-road game viewing that are not permitted inside the national park, while the park itself is an easy morning's drive away.

The design is architectural rather than tented — stone, glass and timber — and the infinity pools carved into the rock are among the most photographed in northern Kenya.
